Oblivion crashes after tutorial?

I have a mediocre knowledge of computers so I was hoping to find some pointers here.

I have Windows 7 Evaluation Copy 7100, 2GB of RAM and the processor is an Intel Celeron CPU, 430 @ 1.80 GHz. It says my Windows Experience Index is a 3.2 out of 7.9?

I have to GOTY edition and it's legitimate, I bought it last week again because I tried to re-install it on my new computer (described above) but the game disk was messed up.

Like I said before, I have a general knowledge of whats going on here- I apparently don't know how to get this game to run properly though. So here's the problem: the game starts up and runs surprisingly well through the tutorial, but when I finally enter the sewers and it has to load the environment for the first time it crashes. I read this in a different thread:

"I fixed mine by setting my video settings correctly using the autorun setup off the disk. Seems it would hang because the video was set too low."

I half-understand what that says- if you set the video quality too low it can mess up how well the game actually runs? Do I even meet the specs to run this game properly or do I need to upgrade before it will even work? And if it's a matter of drivers, I'm not 100% sure on how that works but if I'm told how to do it I can work through it off written directions and context. Basically I just need help! Thank you,
Megan

What else do you want to know? When you say "system specs" I assumed you would mean the RAM and processor- let me know where to find the information and I'll gladly tell you.

No, there is no error message, no freeze or prolonged pause before the crash. It acts like its loading and then crashes to the desktop.

Edit: I went back to my profile and filled out everything I could about my system, which is basically what I posted here plus some random details that are irrelevant to this problem. I'm not sure where to find the rest of the information, and Google has not been too helpful. This is like trying to find the headgasket in a car when all you know is how to check fluids and change tires. But, I did what I could.

Use the guide in my sig to update your drivers but basically your system is too weak. A celeron processor is at the very bottom of the pile and the clock speed + cache are too low. To play this game - even if it old - build a new system. You can also use the HWinfo32 app in the drivers guide to fill in your system specs - post a screenshot of the system summary screen too - search for snip in the start menu.

OK, that's enough info, xMEGANx901 - like the man says..
regrettably, your PC isn't powerful enough to run Oblivion.
it's a very demanding game in terms of hardware requirements

- time to start saving for an upgraded model, maybe.. :(:(

by using Oldblivion you can sometimes get oblivion to run on older hardware, when you first run it the game will be hideous, you can adjust the features back and forth until you find a setting where it runs smoothly but doesn't look so bad. also use the "`"command to enter the console of the game, turning off grass and other graphical features will greatly reduce the strain on your system.
