I am a victim of Vertex III as well.After having hard time with it, i got a Crucial M4 and decided never to buy an OCZ again.

Been using a faithful Vertex Plus R2 as a boot+ drive for a long time now. Unfortunate news for OCZ. The reality is though when it's time to get an ssd for the laptop or replace the desktop ssd, it'll depend on the deal, specs & reviews at the time not the brand name. And by deal I don't mean cheapest.

Like that's going to help? I thought the problem with OCZs WAS the controller and firmware.

Like that's going to help? I thought the problem with OCZs WAS the controller and firmware.

Maybe Toshiba wants to study them and their software, so it does not make the same mistake....then it will fire the workers and improve upon the firmware if possible.

This just means they are holding on longer until they can't hang on anymore

Maybe Toshiba will Implement this tech in all of there Laptops from the jump and make it just a standard and affordable that is what should happen

They have a chance here to steal the Mobile market if they price well and don't blow it up because it has a SSD

Toshiba already has the NAND, the controllers didn't come from OCZ anyway (not that the Sandforce woudl be something Toshiba wanted) and OCZ reoutation is much worse than Toshiba's. what are they actually buying they couldn't accomplish by just making Toshiba SSD from scratch? Whatever Toshiba makes froms cratch couldn't be worse than what OCZ produced.

I'm sure they could have hired soem OCZ talent after bancruptcy without having to buy the company.

anyone in the world knows "toshiba" and they ususaly have good products. No one outside of Internet forums knows OCZ. and the people that know OCZ, wouldn't buy anythign rom them. so the brand value of OCZ is meaningless, probably more a liability than an assett.

By buying the company itself, they now own all of OCZs patents, and OCZ being one of the lead SSD companies, they'll have quite the portfolio of patents.

Toshiba now owning these patents, they're free to make SSDs as they please with all of OCZs stuff. If they had just hired some OCZ talent and tried to manufacture SSDs they'd have been set back a few years while they research and patent their own stuff. They've just taken a shortcut route.
