My system is not a gaming system at all, but I ran games like Call of Duty 4, 5, MW2, BioShock, Fallout 3, Gears of War and Oblivion with good looking settings and good performance, problem is, since a error I received in Assassin's Creed II, I can't play any game at all, I've already tried downgrading the driver, formatting the PC, but none of that seemed to work.

I get no error message, the games run smoothly for 10 minutes or so, and then some weird stretched textures appear, it keeps up a little farther and then everything freezes and I have to reset the PC. In some of these freezes some green and pink dots appear all over the screen, pardon me if I'm posting in the wrong forum but I think it's a graphic card issue.

By the way, I have

GeForce 8400GS, 2GB of RAM, AMD Athlon X2, 500W power supply

and I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate Build 7600 x86

Indeed you certainly don't have a gaming rig. I think it is simply a matter of not having the proper hardware to run those games. After ten minutes or so, your computer starts to run hot, and your parts are truly pushed beyond their limits, resulting in the crash. But by all means wait for a second opinion.

I played those games for at least two years with no problems at all. Hell, I used to play for 8-9 hours nonstop back in the day. If anyone had this problem and know any solution please tell me, these computer parts are expensive as hell here in Brazil and I'd hate to have to buy new ones.

Well, Petey, thank you, maybe I pushed it too much through these years.

When was the last time you opened up the case and cleaned out the dust? If it has been a while (or worse, never), might be a good idea to pop it open and give everything a thorough cleaning.

Computer Cleaning Information

From what you are describing,

the games run smoothly for 10 minutes or so, and then some weird stretched textures appear, it keeps up a little farther and then everything freezes and I have to reset the PC.
it certainly sounds like your video card is overheating.

Other than what Petey has already suggested...

The only other thing I can think that may be a issue, if it was all fine before, is heat.

You may try and clean out all the dust from inside the case, and around the Hardware with a can of Compressed Air..

Thank you Stormy and Wishmaster, but cleaning didn't help at all, in fact I clean it every month with my mom's hair dryer (don't know why, but my "have been doing it wrong"-sense tingled after I said that).

Ok, I got some money, if I buy a new card, will the problem be solved?

I don't think anyone can definitively answer that, not knowing which card your looking at purchasing.
Also if you would please take the time to go to your user CP and fill in all of your system specs this will help us now and in the future, Here is a program to help you with it if you don't know all of them. Speccy - System Information - Free Download
Thanks. Fabe
