Odd external HDD issue

I have a Lenovo Y570 running 7 x64, and a WD 2TB portable hard drive. The laptop has 3 usb 3.0 ports. I originally installed the driver on what the computer assigned as F drive. This was on the right front usb port. All of the sudden, it stopped recognizing when I plugged the HDD in on that port. The usb port right next to it didn't recognize either (HDD would still have light come on and I could hear disk spinning). I plug into my port on the other side of the pc and it pops up with G drive and shows auto play options. I go into disk management when the HDD is plugged into the port on the right side of the pc (used to be F drive), and nothing shows up. G drive port on the left side of the pc shows up fine every time. Any idea as to why this happened? Am I only going to be able to use that one port from now on?

I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the usb hubs, and it made no difference.

^I appreciate the response. I guess I forgot to mention it, but I did the disabling suspend thing from that tutorial before I posted here, and that second link doesn't really apply.

My understanding is that the two usb ports on the right don't work with your hard drive. Does any thing else work in those two ports? I understand that you have already took a look in Device Manager and didn't find anything, is that correct? Have by chance dropped the computer and anything like that?
I have read some where that a usb virus has disable usb ports but usually all of them at one time not just some of them. Just to be sure you could use this very good program.

It could well be a contact problem - that particular port/s and the mate :). This I would think is becoming more common with USB3/USB2 ports and their mates USB2/USB3 connectors. Try with another new cable and check.

Have another idea. Have nothing install in the non working ports. Remove the drivers for those ports and reboot. Windows 7 should pick them back up.

Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
I've been pretty busy lately, and haven't touched anything. I'm putting msss on a thumb drive right now, and I'm going to do a full scan with it tonight.

Btw, thanks for the help so far everyone! I'm sure as I'm on here more, I'll learn a lot.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Power options->USB->Disable usb suspend
2. Device manager->usb cont->uninstall and restart (they auto-reinstalled)
3. Checked for updates on all drivers
4. Ran msss (everything was good w/full scan)
5. Tried to install BIOS update (said current version matched)
5. Physically looked at usb hubs for bent connectors, etc.

I'm about at the point of trying to find out if there is a removeable battery to reset the motherboard. I'm at a loss right now...

One question you haven't answered, does anything else work in those USP ports that don't work with your hard drive?

Oops, I missed that question. Nothing works in those two ports. I plugged in my cell phone, 3 different ipods, 2 thumb drives, and 2 hard drives. The lights on each device comes on, but the computer doesn't recognize them. The two ports on the left side of the computer recognize everything.

I'm out of ideas except a poor harness connection or a motherboard. I will ask for help from others.

Have no better ideas, but here some issue that often got me is that some external HDD consume more power than the others, some extended USB cables or front ports with poor ribbon cable often fail to provide power to it even if i use Y connector. I find all back panel USB ports give better connections.

Just a thought:

Have you checked the settings for USB devices in the machine's BIOS to make sure everything still is properly set?

I just tried to access BIOS by holding F1 when restarting the computer. It did a series of beeps and kicked to the screen that says "boot windows 7" or "start diagnostic repair". I can't get into BIOS right now??? This is weird.
