Solved Odd things going on with partitioned HDD

I have to recently had to a complete new install on my “HP Pavilion dv6” due to a virus completely wiped the HDD.

But ever since the install the HDD has 3 partitions on it which is correct.
· Local Disk (C 793GB Free of 906GB
· System Reserved (D:0 14.1 MB Free of 99.9MB
· Recovery (H 23.9GB Free of 24.4GB

The segment that has me worried is the “System Reserved (D ” as when I open to see what is on that part of the drive the result I get is “This folder is empty”.
What I do not understand is why the drive is showing that there are items on this part of the drive but when I open it is empty.

Can anyone enlighten me as way this is happen and suggest any remedies that can rectify this hic up clinch!

I would like to shrink the local disk but I am confused as to what size to make the partition.

It's normal to not see files on that partition there are only boot files anyway so don't take up much room. How much do you want to shrink c by?

I would like to shrink that volume down to about 250 so the spare can be add part on (D and part on (H

If you don't have a re-install CD / DVD , you might consider 'cloning' the recovery partition 'H' to an EXTERNAL drive, BEFORE changing it's size...


edit: the respective sizes of System Reserved, and Recovery partitions might be default partitions, if new drive reinstallation was done with the 3-disc set that HP DV-Series laptops often create when new... ?

since you have reinstalled Windows, I suppose you have formatted the C: drive and you selected the C: drive to install Windows. in that case, the original system reserved partition is useless because the new boot files are saved in C: drive.

In Disk Management, you can shrink C: drive to 250GB, but when you right click on D: drive or H: drive, you will find Extend Volume option grayed out because DM can only add unallocated space to a partition before it. You can press Windows + R and type "diskmgmt.msc" to open Disk Management.
