Why would an obscure WMP icon file be modified during routine background maintenance tasks? The file is a 48x48 PNG with a long [hash?] name. Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, all Windows Updates completed, current.

Wondering what my PC does while I have a nap, I searched files that have been modified during nap time. Most of the activity appears ordinary, but this PNG jumps out. I do not even use WMP, it is not on my Desktop or menus that I access. The image may not be a common one... did a Google image search and don't see this one. System has been deep scanned for malware. Not worried about this, mainly just curious and yes, probably too much time on my hands lately, ahem.

I have no idea why you are getting that. What are your normal routine background maintenance tasks? There might be a clue in there. That is not the Windows Media Player Icon I have.

Thanks. Nothing unusual re background tasks (no extra tasks on schedule yet). I do use the Win search indexing feature so there are sometimes 3 of those services running.

Do you have to search for the icon or is it on you your Desktop? Can you right click on it and look at properties and then Open File Location? That might give you some information.

As in my original post -- which shows all info I could find, size, path, etc -- I located the item by searching for modified files. No icon on Desktop. Icon image is shown in my post.

By reading this again and again I was thinking that the normal WMP icon is not on you desktop but I don't see a mention whether the new (unknown) icon was on your desktop after it jumps out.
Sorry to bother you with so many useless questions.

Have a nice day.

"Sorry to bother you with so many useless questions"

No, I'M sorry, sure didn't mean to offend in any way! Did I say anything weird? Not used to forum decorum, LOL. Anyway to clarify, by "jumped out at me" I meant that on the search results list, the fact that there was a PNG among the modified files caught my attention. By way of experiment I disabled WMP via control panel... now the PNG does not come up on the search. I guess this whole thing was pretty dumb, eh. One of probably countless oddities seldom noticed amid the Windows bloat. I do appreciate your posts, again, thanks. Alex.
