Office 2007 Won't Install - Keeps Trying To Install On "D:"

I'm trying to reinstall Office 2007 on my PC after a brief flirtation with Office 365 (it sucks), but I can't get it to install.

At first I was getting Error 1324 - Invalid character in "D:\\Program Files x86\Microsoft\Office" or something close to that. Problem is, my PC has never had a D drive that was a HDD, its always been either a DVD or BluRay player.

I have run the registry at least a dozen times and removed every reference I could find for Office. That stopped the 1324 Errors but its still trying to install to D: and tells me that there is no room on it to install and to free up space.

On top of this, in Windows Update, I have a bunch of updates for Office 2007 that can't install because there is no Office installed. But every time I shut the machine down, it tries but fails. And the updates just won't go away. I can't even use the "ignore" function in update to get rid of them.

Any clues folks? I'm at wit's end and ready to say the hell with MS Office and switch to LibreOffice.

Office should always be installed on your main Operating System Disc & not on a different disc. Therefore it should on the same Drive as your Windows 7.
Having it on a different drive will cause files to written to the wrong drive & updates will not be installed correctly either.
As you have Windows on your SSD, Office would work very well there & be fast as well.

Thanks, but I have been running Office from the secondary HDD on my computers for the better part of 15 years and never had a problem before. Its actually something I picked up from a company I worked for as tech support back then.
I still don't understand why this reinstall keeps trying install to the D drive, when there has never been a D hard disk and it was installed on E previously, before I did Office 365.

stick the disk in and when you get the option to "install now" or "customize"
choose "customize" - one of the options available is the destination drive for your installation..

I am. I want it to install to the E: drive, but it keeps trying to access the D: for some unknown reason.

- try installing without allowing it to autorun..
ie. open the disk and select the option to install from there..


- that ought to give you the choice of destination folder..
