Office 2010 conflict with Office 2007

I have a small problem that maybe someone can assist me with.
I recently purchased a new note book with Windows 7 and also purchased Office 2010, Home edition.
I downloaded the software and input my activation code satisfactorily and everything appeared fine, but when I reopen say, Excel or Word I get a message asking me to enter my activation code, but the heading on the message says “Office 2007” although my software indicates “Office 2010” at the top of the page.
Is it possible that my note book came with “Office 2007” preloaded and doesn’t recognise the fact that “Office 2010” is now loaded?
It also indicates that I can only open again 23 more times.
Your assistance would be appreciated.

Did you do a search to see if Office 2007 was listed on your computer?

As you are having an activation problem I would suggest you contact Microsoft Product Activation Center / Support directly.

Note with the phone option -
Step 5. If the automated service is unsuccessful, stay on the line and your call will be transferred to a Microsoft Product Activation Customer Service representative who will help you to activate your product. The representative will give you a confirmation ID number if your copy of product is genuine.

This sounds like an upgrade from Office 2007.. You will need to completely uninstall 2007, then reinstall Office 2010..

It would appear that there was a trial version of office 2007 on your system when purchased. this has corrupted your new install. Microsoft does advise that you remove any previous installs before installing office 2010.

If you follow JMH's good advice Microsoft should walk you through the correct method to clean the system of both 2010 and all remnants of 2007 before re-installing 2010.
One other option if you purchased the system and the Office 2010 from the same store as a working system is to get the store to provide you with a working system, though this may be more difficult than the Microsoft route
