OKI ML 3391 compatible?

Hi,

since my old NEC P3 printer won't work with Windows 7, I'm looking for alternatives... could perhaps someone check if the OKI ML 3391 works with Win7? (Can't check here right now, no Win7 around, and google left me alone...)

It is possible that your antique printer will work with Win7.

The odds of finding someone who meets 4 qualifications to answer your question is remote.

1. Has same antique printer
2. Runs Win7
3. Is a SF member
4. Reads this thread

Lars, follow this link and try this driver.

This is a shot in the dark.
I do have a suggestion:

1. Do not have your printer attached before you begin the installation.
2. If you have attempted to install the printer and you have the remnants of drivers/software? remove/delete them.
3. After downloading the driver from the above link left click your mouse on the driverthen right click and install as administrator.
4. After installing the driver attach your printer and windows 7 should detect the new piece of hardware and istall your printer.

As I've said this is a shot in the dark. We wish you success.

thanks for the answers, though I have been outbid on that one But a more general question: Is there no way, to find out what Hardware is supported by Windows 7? Some list or anything? Because I guess every printer I get for the job will be "antique" (needle printers are after all today ), and I'd of course like to check compatibility before I have a monster sent to my home... Probably the driver will be an integrated one, since no manufacturers make *new* drivers for download for those printers

About the self-recognition of the new printer: Most likely it will be a LPT one, so there's no plug-and-play... and even worse, it will be connected to my 2003 Server, and so far I have not found a way to select a driver when installing a network printer (different to a local installation, where you can select make and model)

Since you will need to add this printer to the LPT1 port was there any software that came with your printer?
I'm not sure what you mean when you said: "I'm out bid on that".

Obviously with a printer that old there comes only Software for Windows NT (or maybe even 2000). Though Windows has lots of drivers already builtin, so I'm looking for a list of supported devices...
I wanted to get that printer on ebay, but I didn't get it... "outbid" (not the correct word?)

I have a dot matrix attached to an XP machine. I would not use any other type in the role that printer serves.

I am curious - what is the ballpark for your budget. Perhaps there is a known Vista/7 compatible model sans driver issues.

The one that slipped through today was ~40 €. There are still new ones (even with USB), but they go aroung 700-1200 €. It's a special thing these days, so prices went crazy... and I need an A3 format, too... but, lucky thing is, I got my NEC P3 working again (gotta update that in the other post). I figured out how to use the "create local port" thing and used the builtin driver for "NEC pinwriter 136", which seems to be a generic one. The local port gave me the option to select a driver, while the network install just gave me a search for an .inf file (which I didn't know which one it is and where it resides on Win7)
