Old asus laptop using excess bandwidth

AT&T techs say my download speed is slow because laptop is using too much bandwidth. If that is possible, what can I do about it?

Welcome to the forum. How do you know it's using all the bandwidth? What's it running?

Just going by what AT&T says in explaining why I can't usually get, for example, Netflix without disconnecting laptop from Wifi. Laptop and desktop internet have been slower and slower several months. Only running Chrome, Windows Live email, Facebook, and Words with Friends and Scrabble. Ookla speed shows less than 3Mbps on laptop usually and only time I get the 6Mbps I'm paying for is on desktop with laptop disconnected, and not always then.

If you get 6 meg and you have 2 pcs going it's likely you would only get 3 each or if one is streaming less you download isn't good enough for Netflix

Do you know what service you get adsl, adsl2+. cable?

Just dsl as far as I know.
