Hi everyone. I would like to take the SATA harddrive out of the Dimension E310--old computer-- and install it in the Inspiron 560. I believe both harddrives are Sata drives. The problem is in the E310 the HD is attached with and IDE cable. I donot see that type of connection in the 560. Is there any way that I can install the old harddrive? I would hate to have to get rid of it. Here is my specs for the E310:

Dimension E310
Intel® Pentium® 4 with Hyper-Threading technology
2GB of Memory
Intel 915GV
2 Serial ATA drives
Nvidia GeForce 5200 PCI Video Card

If it's an IDE (PATA) interface then it's not a SATA drive.

I have a Dimension E510 which is from the same vintage. According to the Dell manual the hard drive, like my E510's hard drives, are SATA. The optical drives (CD/DVD) are PATA types and use the wide IDE Ribbon I/O data cables.

Are you sure you are looking at the SATA hard drive?

Thanks fellows for helping me. Fireberd you were right. I was looking at the optical drives instead of the harddrives. Can I install another optical drive in the 560? Can I take one of the optical drives out of the E310 and install it in the 560? This a probablly a stupid question, but I had to ask it. I is ashame to get rid of two perfectly good hd and two optical drives. What do you think? For the harddrives I will buy an enclosure and use them as external hds. Any help will be appreciated deanie 44
