Old Software

I am an old codger so bear with me. I have been playing around with Win 7 now for some time and so I have not seen anything it does that I can not live with. I know when XP came out it had the same issues.

I have been playing around installing and uninstalling some old software. When I say "old", I mean some were old when XP came out.

When I installed, I used the Properties/Compatibily Tab and "Run as Administrator" and so far I have not had anything that did not install. Some may not run exactly like they do in XP but generally I can get by very well with how they do run.

Now for issue (a small one), when running these programs, everytime I start them, I have to Right-Click and "Run as Administrator". Is there anyway to get around having to Right-Click???

Like I said "a small issue".

What sort of software have you been trying?

You might want to install XP Mode and try your software in there.

Open properties of the program in question, choose Compatibility and choose Run this program as an administrator.

Thank you Kari, just what i needed to know.

The older stuff is like PSP 7.0 (yep at least 5 versions have come out since this and this one still works better), I don't know the version but is call Anfy (have had it a long time).

I guess the main thing with using older programs is that I know how to use them and I don't to pay for new software that does the same thing and also don't need to start any new learning curves.

Nice if I could help you. But to really be able to use all older software, you should do what Swarfega told here above: download and install Virtual PC and use the older software in XP Mode.

I would download virtual PC but right now I am not sure it would be worth the effort. The Win 7 I am running is one of the first versions that came out. Unfortunately I was not around to get the lastest releases.


When Win 7 is released to the public the yes I will do that.

Microsoft is offering a 90 day trial for Windows 7 Enterprise, so that would give you a chance to play around with the final code.
