I have an old system running Windows XP SP3:

CPU - AMD Athlon X2 250
Motherboard - Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P
Video Card - NVidia GeForce GT220
Network - Netgear WNDA 3100 N600
HDD - Maxtor 6Y160P0
DVD - Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-1170

I've been able to find the drivers for everything but CPU. I'm just not absolutely positive about the Gigabyte 1.3 drivers will work with the AMD Athlon X2.

According to the spec they will:

Support for Socket AM3/ AM2+/ AM2 processors: AMD Phenom™ FX processor/ AMD Phenom™ X4 processor/ AMD Phenom™ X3 processor/ AMD Athlon™ X2 processor/ AMD Athlon™ processor/ AMD Sempron™ X2 processor/ AMD Sempron™ processor

But the CPU Support list in the driver download section doesnt mention it which makes me nervous.

Can someone confirm? I'd like to upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Thanks

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
I actually did find the CPU listed as supported. It was just in a different section. I didn't scroll far enough and assumed a certain order. I also ran Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor and it came back fine.

Onward and upward. Thanks

Will you be using a full version of W7 64-bit or upgrade? If you're using the upgrade it will only work if your XP install is 64-bit, I found that out the hard way. If you're doing a clean install with a full version then that link won't apply.

I recently did this upgrade from XP to W7Ux64 on a Athlon 64x2. Do a clean install like Boozad said. You well find 7 runs much faster than XP.

I take it that the cpu has been used in the motherboard before, it is certainly fast enough. You don't say how much ram you have, W7 64 will run with 2gb but 4gb is preferable.
