I had Ubuntu installed on an external HDD, but back when I had XP, I formatted it for general storage. Now I'm running Seven and I have no idea how to remove the Ubuntu option from my Dual Boot menu. Please help...

I used EasyBCD to remove a Previous Version of Windows entry, but the Ubuntu entry that I can see at startup (Windows Boot Loader) isn't showing in EasyBCD.

You could boot into the Windows 7 recovery console, either press f8 during start up or boot from your Win7 disk, then go to the command promt option and type
FIXMBR
Should be like Ubuntu was never on your pc.

Did you register to try Easy 2.0 beta? Previous 1.72 version doesn't have Linux tab to add/remove.

Seems I remember reading that the only way to rid of GRUB is deep format.

EasyBCD tells me there is only one entry in the bootloader. And command prompt has never heard of FIXMBR..."not recognixed as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file". Am I missing something.. should I type more than just FIXMBR?

Command is bootrec /fixmbr and needs to be run from the Win7 DVD Repair console Command Line.

While there, choose Startup Repair from the list of tools and run it a few times to see if it removes it.

Okay thanks. I'll have to find my windows DVD for that... I'll get it for tomorrow evening and try that then. I'm in bed at the minute and frankly, it can wait...

When I had XP, Ubuntu still showed. Then I did a clean install of Seven, and it carred through with a previous version of windows entry AND the ubuntu entry. EasyBCD listed the previous version and so I was able to remove it... And I think that answers your question :S
Will a repair install then fix my windows features issue?

Very possible on indexing, not so much Ubuntu listing if it survived 7 clean install.

I read some on GRUB because of the avalanche of dual boot probs we have here.

Everything I read says you must deep format over GRUB to get it out before Installing Win7 then reinstall it if you need it to manage Ubuntu-7 dual boot.

This is the only sure fix I know.

That said, there are some GRUB experts around here who may catch your post title.

Wow, that doesn't sound promising...
