Old virtual machines don't work any longer

I have moved all my old virtual machines from my old PC (Vista Ultimate x86) to the new one running Win 7 Pro x64. None of them will start. They all bluescreen at one point or another suggesting I'd look at drivers.

1st question: wasn't Virtual PC meant to abstract from driver issues? I mean: the whole idea about virtual machines is that you can move them about not worrying about drivers, right?

2nd question: anyone else have this problem and possibly a solution?

3rd question: some of the virtual PCs are still in hibernation. Virtual PC won't start them up. Why don't I get the option to ditch the hibernation and just start from the vhd as it is?

I also had to ditch my old VM when I went from a beta version to the "regular" version of VPC on windows 7. Got to say that this was NOT friendly at all of this software, but then in my case as I was going from beta to full release software, I'm not really surprised by that.

You'd have thought that there would be some kind of migration path from older version of VPC to the latest - other than copying everything to DVD first!

Oh well.

I couldnt agree more, Microsoft should have made a way to migrate! I had spent several hour setting up a Ubuntu VM in Vista, now I cannot get one to work at all in Win7!
