My friend had a Zoom meeting scheduled, but her dog ate the lens of her webcam. I started setting up mine, a Logitech QuiKCam S5500. I've been using it with Win7, and before that with XP, but there are no longer any updates. On her Win10 computer, her Zoom program said it doesn't detect a camera. She had to join the meeting by phone.

I know very little about webcams. Are they specific to certain Windows versions, like printers?

Secondly, if you join a Zoom meeting by phone, does it have to be a cell phone?

Did you install a driver in Windows 10 for the camera? If not, then that's more than likely why the Zoom program couldn't detect it. This camera looks mighty old and It looks like there's only a Windows 7 driver. That may or may not work in 10, not sure.

I don't understand your second question. If you use the Zoom App on a smartphone then it has to be a smartphone or tablet with camera with either (and preferred) your home WIFI connection or the cell Internet connection.

You could try installing the Windows 7 drivers using compatibility mode in Windows 10. Check Device Management afterwards, to see if they install without error.

No, you don't need a cellphone to connect to Zoom without computer audio. You can use an ordinary Telephone, see Zoom support article here: Joining a meeting by phone | Zoom Help Centre.

Why not try an ordinary microphone? I have used Zoom lots of times with a simple Microphone. Obtaining a new Webcam is difficult at the moment, as the Lockdown means factories are not maintaining new stock levels. So an ordinary microphone has to do.
