I had to replace system and data disks, that mean 2 physical disks. At the old sytems disk C: I had installed onedrive app, which has set folder for sync "!Photos" on 2nd drive with letter I:/. After replace 2nd disk disk it have letter D:/, however all data from old one I copied to new one.
Under that folder "!Photos" onedrive app created another subfolder "OneDrive" and all further folders and files moved under that. And synced to the cloud.

Now I'm going to install onedrive app to new system disk. My question is: How to set sync to D:/!Photos, that onedrive app will not start resending all data under such folder (approx. 950GB) to the cloud? And of course will not erase all photos on cloud and start sending same files again. Should I move all folders and files from subfolder !Photos/OneDrive/ to !Photos/ as it was before and delete empty folder /OneDrive? Or is it possible after installation onedrive app do copy some program or system files from C:, that onedrive app will be fooled as nothing happen and just continue working as would been not reinstalled? I would appreciated any reasonable advice, start to sending almost 1 TB to the cloud is matter of more than week with full occupying upload bandwith, besides another inconveniences better no speak about.
Thanks.

Hi,
That I know of Onedrive sync goes by folder names and file names as long as those have not changed the drive is irrelevant because it's just a partition/ drive you chose to have synced to Onedrive,
Onedrive may very well have fun sifting through all of the folders and files but will most likely not do anything to the files unless you choose to replace the files when it finds the duplicate names and ask for further actions,
Cheers.

that's what I really doubt, last time onedrive erased everything on cloud and start transfering all files in folder with same name again. no matter there was same files, new or updated. but last time it was just 25GB, which I accept. Now is no chance to go through with same process again.

It's pretty wild to have nearly a terabyte of files on Onedrive or any file sharing site for that matter :/
All I can suggest is to add the folders to Onedrive folder a few at a time and see what happens ?
Cheers.

For some is wild, for me is vital backup of 35mm and 120 (format) films scans, produced for more than 60 yrs from our family. More than 8 thousands hq scans. :geek: I already make another onedrive accnt and start backup som dummy folders and files, then I'll unlink onedrive, move that folder and reestablish link again. We'll see, I'll let you know result.

Ok, I'm back with solution and probably instructions for somebody else in future. So it's working without sending all files to cloud again. Only one thing is necessary - linked folder must contain subfolder "OneDrive" and inside him all data. Example:
Original folder for backup before set onedrive app: C:\Photos\(all files and folders with valuable data).
After first set onedrive is will be change to: C:\Photos\OneDrive\(all files and folders with valuable data).

Once somebody move folder \Photos to another drive, MUST keep subfolder \OneDrive. When you going to re-establish backup from E:\Photos\OneDrive\(all files and folders with valuable data), just set for link D:\Photos and onedrive app asked you, whether you want merge folders and so on... (because subfolder OneDrive is already there). Agree and continue till end of settings. That's it. For me with almost 1TB data took almost 30min, until onedrive checked all data and just ticked all as synced.

And ThrashZone, Thank you.
