Online Armour Firewall no longer supported so which next free one?

Shame on them as bought it around 5 years ago and its hips made it excellent. But its gone no longer supported since March 31st. Still working but no definitions etc.

Many today using security package but I prefer the stand alone programs so which is best after OA? So comparisons are dated seemingly by this.

Any ideas?

Had a look at Z alarm but not good as it includes Anti Virus etc and I use Avast Free along with SAS Pro Real time and Malabytes boot plus Spyware Blaster.

I would suggest to take a look at the built-in Windows Firewall. I found it to be surprinsingly capable to control network flow when properly configured. By default it's almost disabled and serves no purpose, but a good set of fine tunned rules can make it a good option, and being included in Windows itself makes it even easier to use. Just stay away of its control panel applet, that's just an useless dumbed-down version that offers no real control over it, go directly to "firewall with advanced settings" panel.
They only (rather major) drawback I've found is that it doesn't shows notifications when it blocks a connection, thus you don't know when programs "phone home" when they should not.

About your current software, being unsupported in practice means nothing for the user. No more updates are certainly not a good thing, but the thing will work exactly as it is today, no matter what, specially firewalls that don't rely at all on any online service of the vendor. Until a bug is discovered in it, or newer programs superseed it significantly, I don't find unreasonable to continue using it. I don't get what do you mean by "Still working but no definitions", firewalls don't rely on any kind of "definitions" or anything like that.

Thanks for reply - good info.
By definitions I meant the updates they send regularly - thought maybe like anti virus but maybe not - and today first time noticed they updated it , saying data base updated, which is where I got 'definitions' from and also something else which I always took to be patches - ignorant I know relying on it for last what must be 15 years.

So they are still 'supporting' it although said stopped 31.3.16 I reckon must know it is still working out here in cyber country and maybe took ;ity on us who wont part with it easily eh

I'll stick with it then if it just goes on working - thanks again.
