Online radio stations

I'm new to this forum, but not to computers. I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 64bit, but when I open any online radio station and start to listen to music and attempt to minmize the radio web site and go somewhere else, the music will simply shut off, no error message or anything. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be?

What do you mean by "go somewhere else"? Are you doing this in the same browser that is currently playing music? If so, have you opened a new tab fist?

Thanks Zuker for the response, I meant go to another web-site. Yes, this is using the same browser. On my old computer using XP it was never a problem.

Did you open a new tab when you go to the new website?

If radio site tab is closed or a new page opened in the same tab the link is disconnected.

Thanks for the reply, yes I open a new tab, but the radio station just closes and shuts off the music. I talked to a "Geek" tech at the Best Buy where the computer was purchased and he had no idea what the problem was. [So much for their customer service]

Media Player?

I am probably not reading your post correctly but here is what works for me. Open Win Media Player, click bottom left "Media Guide" select "internet radio" find your station and click listen. Minimize Media Player and open IE and browse away.

Hammerhead has a good idea.

You may also open your radio station. Minimize if you want it out of the way.

Then open new browser session seperately to browse from.

You essentialy would have two software programs running similar to Hammerheads suggestion.

In response to Hammerhead first, I started with Windows Media Player, but it does the same thing when I try to leave.

Hopealong, I also tried to open a new brouser but that does not work either. My luck with electronics lately has not been good. I just sent back a Mp3 player that didn't work and a cell phone that was junk. I just hope the wheels of my new car don't fall off

When I listen to a station, I use my browser and put the URL of the station in. When the browser is open there is usually a link that says "Listen Here". When I click that a new browser window opens with the station playing. I just minimize that and go on with my work.

The minimize button is not the "x" but the "-". If that's not the problem post a link to the problematic website so we can all try it.

Try listening to the stations on ample.fm - I've never had any problems.
