hmm, so for the last year its been telling you that your running 1GB, but you physically have 2GB installed?

No, sorry my fault for lack of detail lol. For the past year or so I have had Windows XP installed with 2GB RAM running. Since formatting my hard drive and doing a clean install of Windows 7, I have just realised when I went on System Information that it says 1GB

Hmm, try this.
Start, Accessories, Command prompt, type "msconfig" (no quotes), go to Boot tab, and advanced, and
tick the maximum memory and put it to the maximum, if 2GB is really there, This should get to 2048mb, apply, and restart.

The msconfig option is to limit the RAM at bootup. Can you flash the BIOS, then check if the RAM modules are fully seated?
