Hi there. I am trying to figure out how to use the onscreen keyboard. There are a lot of articles that just explain how to start it, but not how to use it.
I know how to access it. And it works when I enter letters in the search box of my browser. However, that's all it does. When I use it with a word processor, the keys do not respond. Strange. Also, when i click on alt+(number) on the numeric pad (which works perfect on a regular keyboard), it does not work at all. Don't get me wrong: it's not that I want to type a whole document with it. It should work, but it does not. I am stumped! Does anyone have an answer? Thanks in advance for your help.

Onscreen Keyboard not functional

THanks for trying. It just doesn't work. When I invoke it in xp, absolutely no problem. It works in every word processor I try. On my laptop, which has Windows 7 Starter, the onscreen keyboard works with: the search box of the browser, with let's say you want to create a new folder and you enter the letters to name that folder. But not in notepad, not in any word processor. The letters on the onscreen keyboard light up, but they do not show up on the open document. Weird... Maybe it's a bug with Windows 7 Starter.

Try booting to safe mode and see if the onscreen keyboard works in safe mode. A Guy

Okay. Notepad and Wordpad work, even when I am not in safe mode. But not a regular word processor, like MS Works does not accept any input from the onscreen keyboard.
Also, whether in Notepad or Wordpad, the numeric keyboard pad does not work. It comes up, when I click on numlock. But when I click on 'alt' to do let's say a special character with alt + number code, the alt key goes off after just one digit. The codes are 3 digits. So you see how weird this is. That was my idea in the first place, to use the onscreen keyboard to do special (foreign) characters on the laptop because it has no numeric pad; would have been an easy way. But I give up. Guess it's not possible. I'll just use a usb keyboard to do that sort of typing.

I understand your problem, I just suggested to try in safe mode to see if it all works there. That would indicate a driver problem, or 3rd party app interfering in it's normal operation. A Guy
