Hello all

Recently coming from XP to Win7

A thing I noticed that I can't seem to figure out how to correct is, back with XP I was able to open a folder where the entire window was just that folder.

I.E. no tree view at all, kind like how control panal looks like.

But for some reason I can't get Win7 to do this.

I have tried setting the folder options to: Open Each Folder In Its Own View, to which it will open a new window but basically its the same as the standard explorer view, not a complete and only that folder view. As well I have unchecked the Show All Folders & Automatically Expand to Current Folder boxes, as well as in the View section, I tried checking Launch Folder in a Separate Process, but non of this has had any effect.

So does anyone know the solution to this?

Basically I want this as I have a few folders that have so many things and of different file types in them and that I use in Medium Icon view, basically all in all to help me find the one file among all the others easer, so with the tree view still in there, it takes up valuable real estate.

Thanks for any help

Man never let it be said that you don't get quick replies here.

Thanks for the reply fishnbanjo and sorry that I didn't include this but I tried a right click for this too.

Basically that is the same, kinda as the tut states, as setting the folder options to Open in New Window to which as I said, didn't work either.

Like I said this does open a "new" window but its just the same as not having a new one with the the Navigator Pain showing.

Dagnabbit, I am being dense this morning, I just read this 3 days ago!!! Change Windows to Classic view

This might do what you want, if not, Ultimate supports XP Virtual Mode, I know that's probably a beast of a work around for file viewing but..........

Thanks for the reply,

Yeah upon some research it seems I can turn the Navigational Pane off but then that's the way it will be for all, which is no good.

Thanks again fishnbanjo

Thanks, actually I am running 7 in as bout a classic view as can be done, looks pretty much like 98 in just about every aspect I can do.

But even in this mode, works the same.

As well, I have VXP up and running for a 16 bit version of AutoCAD so I'm quite familiar with it and yeah, not worth the trouble.

Boy it really is just amazing to me all the good stuff that has been taking out of Win7.

Just unbelievable.

An people wonder why Mac's are gain so much ground, if they ever put a more open source type system in place they would flatten MS in no time.

If a MAC floats you boat, go for it....that being said, it sounds like you were satisfied with XP, why then did you feel the need to install Windows 7.... Widnows XP is 10 years old and you have to realize that there are going to be changes that will take a bit of time to get used to it... As to your last statement, well, Ill refrain from saying anything more ... :zip:

You can always hold Shift and double click on a folder to open it in a new window (which, I believe, should open it in non-tree view). Unless you are saying this doesn't work, either.

I don't follow you...but just to point out, you cannot do what you want in a Mac anymore then you can in Windows 7. So you will never win. If this feature is SO important, why not go back to the ancient Windows XP?

Just gave that a try but it didnt' work, opened it as the next folder as usual.

Gave Ctrl+Shift a try though and that opened a new window, but just the same as I have been describing, with the tree (Nav) view.

Thanks for the try though.

Hello WBFAir,

You can turn off the navigation pane to only have the files and folders display in Windows Explorer without a folder tree, but this will affect all windows.

Hope this may help,
Shawn
