why can not we have open source drivers for graphics, networking, wifi, printer and scanner

it will save the companies precious resources, like few developers needed and it will work on any Operating System platform thus boosting sales of such equipment

my Benq scanner (which is nine years old) works fine on windows xp and seven(i didnt try windows vista) but not on windows 8, when i contacted Benq technical staff, they said they do not support this scanner on windows seven and eight.

Have you tried installing the drivers you have, in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html?

A Benq scanner goes back 9years? compatibility mode goes back to win95/98. By the way, what model is it?

I know this thread is a little old. I hate to correct people. Some drivers are open source. Some Microsoft software is open source. Some third party is open source like browsers for example. VLC media player is another one that is open source.

BSD is technically not open source. It is different type of license.

Roasterman proprietary software doesn't have vulnerabilities? I know proprietary software & open source software has its pros & cons.
