Okay that is a little more tricky. Does this happen when you try to open any program? For example you try to open Windows Media Player and Photo viewer tries to open it.

Okay, start with the one labeled EXE in Brink's tutorial and see if that cures it.

Were you able to merge the .reg file?

Let me pull up a virtual machine and see if I can replicate your issue. Will post back with my findings.

if its of any help i think it was because i accidentally opened skype with windows photo viewer and the box that said "always use the selected program to open this kind of file" was checked

I have tried to re-associate .exe files on the virtual machine and the .reg file is fixing it every time. Could you please tell me exactly what you were doing when this issue occurred. I cannot reproduce your exact problem.

I am trying to find a way you were able to open Skype in Windows Photo Viewer, but I can't seem to make it happen. Did you right click Skype and select "open with" or was it some other way? The more details you can give the better.

well thats the thing, i didnt open it. I right clicked the icon and clicked open with. I was just fiddling around and didnt actually mean to change anything around. im not sure how exactly i got the photo viewer to become what opens the files but it became the recommended program to "open this kind of file"

it opens the photo viewer when i double click on it and it says "windows photo view can't open this picture because either Photo Viewer doesn't support this format, or you don't have the latest updates of photo viewer"
