I know this is a small issue but I've already tried a few things. Naturally I made sure that in WMP 12 I went to
Organize > Options > Player Tab and made sure "Keep Now Playing on top of other windows" is already UN-checked.

I can also get this to work in the 64 bit version by doing the following:

1. Right click on the WMP shortcut and click properties.

2. In the Target box Add /Task MediaLibrary to the end.

3.Click ok.

Should look like this.

"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Task MediaLibrary

Here is my particular conundrum. When I use the above example it works but it reverts back to the 64-bit version of WMP 12 and I lose all of my custom plug-ins. All my plug-ins are only compatible with the 32 bit version of WMP NOT the 64 bit version. I'd like to find a way of opening WMP 12 (32-bit) with Library View on top without losing the plug ins. Is this possible?

I know this is a small issue as I can always click
"Switch to Library" in the upper right hand corner. But who wants to do that every time a person opens WMP 12? I know its not the end of the world, but I never use the Now Playing screen as I'm always in the Library. Thanks!

"%ProgramFiles%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:1

not sure it will make a difference but worth a shot. bed now 3am here.

I know that won't work as my target already has that. Thanks for the reply. There's got to be a way around this.

On Windows 7 x64, the target of the shortcut needs to be different to launch the 32-bit WMP:

"%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe"
/Task MediaLibrary

If that still doesn't help, then I suggest that you check if a Now Playing plug-in is installed (Tools - Options - Plug-ins - Now Playing category). These can cause WMP to always open in Now Playing mode.

OK, tried the Target option and that didn't work. So I checked the Now Playing plug-ins and found that there are two in that category. Tried to untick them but when I close out WMP and reopen it, they both tick themselves back on again. How can I modify this?

Out of curiosity, which plug-ins are these?

Other than unticking them in the Tools - Plug-ins menu, I don't think that there are any options besides uninstalling the plug-ins.

They are the RM Plugin and the Lyrics Plugin for WMP but
Tim, you've already helped me solve my problem!

Check out this link:

my windows media player 12 opens into Now Playing frame - Microsoft Answers

First I used the appropriate target shortcut that you provided: "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Task MediaLibrary

Next I tried disabling each of the plugins separately using regedit. I have the 64-edition of Windows 7 so I had to look under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\WOW6432node\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\UIPlugins. It appears that both plugins will automatically bring up the Now Playing mode instead of Library mode. Once both are disabled, Library mode works! Hurray! I can live without the RM Plugin as I've never had the need to use it but it's a shame I have to ditch the Lyrics Plugin. Any alternatives to the Lyrics Plugin?

BTW, I currently have and consistently utilize two of your plugins: WMPCDText 1.2 and WMP Tag Plus 1.2. They're truly indespesnsible as I use flac files quite often. Thank you for creating them!

Oh, I see. I had forgotten about that thread on Windows Answers - thanks for reminding me :)

Is it the Lyrics plug-in from Lyrics Plugin ? Do you have the latest version installed, 0.4?

Yes, it is the plugin from Lyrics Plugin. Not sure of the version. I highly doubt it as it says the content was created in June of 1999. Would the newer version work better?

Disregard that last reply. I checked your link and upon download, I was told that Lyrics Plugin "already exists" so I do have version 0.4. Hard to believe it's 13 years old already!

It might still be worth a try to uninstall the current version and then install 0.4. I also have that plug-in installed on a Windows 7 system and it's not causing WMP to start up in Now Playing mode, so are you sure that it wasn't just the Replay Media Catcher plug-in?

The only other lyrics plug-in that I know of is MiniLyrics. Alternatively, you could add the lyrics manually and use WMP's built-in function for displaying lyrics.

Yeah, it's Lyrics Plugin that's causing Now Playing to display. I uninstalled the original plugin then installed the plugin through the link you provided. Same thing. Used regedit and the issue was resolved. So Lyrics Plugin is the culprit here. I'll see how MiniLyrics works.
