I'm trying to run Half Life on my PC, and I've never had issues with it before on my desktop that had a Nvidia 6600gt, but on my laptop, I am running an Intel GM965, and it seems like OpenGL just won't work. The game will launch, but then there will be no text, even though when you move the mouse on the area it will make the sounds, so the game isn't just frozen. This is a bummer, because some mods for Half Life, like the new one, Cry of Fear, require OpenGL or the flashlight won't work. Which is kind of crucial for a horror game. I have the latest Intel Drivers, and I am all up to date with Windows Updates, and all that jazz. I don't have money for a better comp, so I want to try and get the best experience I can with what I got. I appreciate the help anyone can give me. :D

Just tried it, still no luck when it came to running HL or CoF.

How are you launching the game? Can you disable visual themes and desktop composition on the half life executable?

Yes, And just gave it a try. No luck. Same issue, game runs, just has no UI, which makes it impossible to navigate the game lol.

I'll have to give it a try next time I'm near my laptop.

i've had problems myself running openGL programs on 64 bit systems. i also have the intel 965 graphics chip on my laptop. what worked for me is changing to a 32 bit OS. which may not be the solution for everyone, but since i've never used more than 3gb of RAM im fine with a 32 bit system. intel knows there is a problem and wants nothing to do with the issue as they lack customer support with issues like this. and they always refer you to your OEM even if it has nothing to do with the OEM. what you can try though is this... what i noticed is that these programs were looking for the openGL file in the system 32 folder. but on 64 bit systems the file is in the WOW64 folder (not sure the exact name anymore since i don't run on 64bit anymore). what you can do is this: go to your "C:\Windows\WOW64\" folder and find the file called openGL32.dll copy it and paste it in your "C:\Windows\system32\" folder, and try running your openGL game again. it may or may not be a solution for you, but its the only thing i can think of outside of what I ended up doing.

I only run 2gb of ram, so I'm definitely gonna switch to 32bit. But I'm gonna try the the whole wow64 thing first. It seems like it would be easier than switching everything over.
