i used to download subtitles from a website which saves it in .aspx file (looking like zipped folder file) and after extracting it used to work fine.
But yesterday, when i saved a file it got saved in .dat file. Thinking it will open in notepad (since .srt opens with notepad) i made it to 'OPEN WITH' notepad. But i was not able to view/use the file. Now when iam trying to download anyother sub from the same website it gets saved in notepad and will be of no use.
Do i need to install anything so that i can use the file? How do i make it so that the file gets saved in a zipped looking folder and i can use the subs.

Please help

Hello arin and welcome to Seven Forums.

I found this article about .aspx files. It may have some info that will help you.

ASPX File (What It Is & How To Open One)

You could also try one of the many free 3rd party tools that specialize in opening different file formats. This is one example:

Free File Opener | Opens all of your files | Free Download!

Or you could try changing the default program used to open the .aspx files.

Thanks for the response...
Actually im dumb bout this computer stuff....
Regarding the Links (pcsupport), i had checked there...but wasnt able to get answer if i had to install anything so that i open it..Even i had tried opening by renaming the file.but that also doesnt work..
And as for the 3rd party tools, how was it that, i was able to open the same files earlier and had used the subtitles.Even im not very sure if it will solve my issue.

I guess I'm a little confused too.

What were you using before to open the .aspx files? From reading your first post, it sounds like whatever website you were visiting downloaded the files to your computer. Once the file(s) were downloaded, did they look like a folder with a zipper on it? How did you open them? Did you right-click on the file and then get an option to Extract All? If yes, it's possible that the Windows 7 integrated zip function needs to be repaired.

You could try running a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot your computer after each scan.

I also found this Microsoft forum thread that sounds very similar to your problem.

Apparantely, when your used Notepad to open the file, you opted to leave the option to always use this program for this type of file. You need to change the association back to the prior setting, which I am guessing was compressed format; use the last suggestion in marsmimar's post #2 or maybe post #4 provides a solution.

Earlier it used to get saved in a zipped like folder which i used to extract and use it. But now since the last time it was not in the same type, i tried to open with notepad and since then the problem started.
Is it something with the zipping software (i have winrar full version) because if i save the same file in another system (computer), it gets saved in a zipped folder and after extracting it works fine. I have also tried opening the same with winrar but does not work..
