Opera 12.00 pre-alpha Build 1033 released

It actually was released last Wednesday

One small extra point with regards to the Core network latency fixes, just to avoid confusion. You will not see any real difference testing against popular benchmarks (which focus on rendering and JavaScript performance); this kind of work is more likely to have an impact on regular "day to day" browsing. However, it can result in pages loading in half the time! You are most likely to see a difference if you have a poor network connection and others may notice improved performance when connecting to a webserver hosted on another continent.

It is noticeably faster than previous builds loading pages on my PC with 50 MB broadband, comparing with the latest Chromium 15.0.841.0 (Developer Build 94996 Windows) opening the same pages I honestly cannot tell which is faster.

The build may still be a pre alpha but seems very stable the built in mail client is very good there has been a lot of work on it recently.

I have been using Opera Next 12.00 build 1020 since it's release. It it telling me I have the latest release and that no upgrade is available. Is build 1033 official?

Opera Next and auto-update

We get many questions about why the builds we upload to this blog aren't immediately added to the auto-update system. This is quite understandable, since auto-update is such a convenient way to get the build. However, the very fact that it is automatically updated without any interaction from you, makes us want to make sure that the builds are somewhat usable before pushing them to auto-update – you do not want Opera to unexpectedly start crashing on all your favorite sites.

In short, this is how it works:
Make a build
Smoke test it internally while writing the blogpost
Upload it to the snapshot server
Publish the blog post
Wait for eager testers to give their feedback
If nothing is obviously wrong, we ask our server guys to add the build to the auto-update system. This part can often happens a day after we decide that the build is good enough
So be patient. We will add builds as soon as they are deemed good enough. If we don't add the builds to auto-update within a few days, it probably means we decided it was not good enough. If that is the case, a new snapshot will very likely be released very soon.

These are all pre alpha builds so won't be in the Next auto updates.
The latest build is definitely worth upgrading to from build 1022.

No connection I'm retired with plenty of time on my hands.
Did you ever own a Commodore Pet launched in 1977 ?
I'm an ex owner of the Sharp MZ 80 K launched in 1978 which was very similar.

I did not own one but I used them in high school. Good old BASIC and I did some assembly language programming on them as well. They were so much fun to use, but I sure was glad when the 5 1/4" floppy came along and replaced the cassette drive.

I used to love writing programs in Basic the original Basic was not up to much but the MZ 80K users club wrote several versions that was much better.
Cassette tapes it was an art form getting them to work properly correcting azimuth misalignment.
