Opera a disappointment

I switched to Opera a while back and thought that looks-wise it was an awesome, sleek browser. A bit slower than other browsers but no biggie. Plus the included mailclient was a nice touch. Mainly I liked the look of it though.

I noticed, however, that many times it wouldn't download certain files; patricularly .exe and zip files. That's a damn shame. Now I have to switch back to 'Plain Jane' Internet Explorer.

Not really a question... more of a rant. Ta for the ear.

O 10.5 renders some web pages very badly

Oupps I'm running 7X64 and the last Opera 10.5 Final Version works like a charm... Be sure to get the latest version previous Alpha and Beta version are buggy.

I have also had problems with Opera 10.5 and I'm now back to Google Chrome.

Chrome is liked by many members. Stories that it is not compatible with some websites is highly exaggerated. There is an add-on, too which overcomes that shortfall.

If you still have Opera installed, maybe manually changing the download folder location may have some sort of impact.

Settings > preferences > Advanced >Downloads

Although it should download 'out of the box' regardless of save location

Internet explorer isn't really that bad a browser =). In my experience, the pages load just as quickly in internet explorer as in other browsers. I also use google chrome and find that it is only minutely faster. I don't see what the big deal is with such little to compare in real world performance, not some javascript test, or acid3, sunspider, etc.

I tried Opera but it seemed very slow, also the turbo feature didn't help at all it made images on Deviantart look really awful but was strangely slower to load these pages.

Turbo is designed for those with low-speed connections ie dial-up / low end end broadband etc

Opera has its perks but it just didn't cut it when I needed it to. Eg: if I download a patch, say, I don't need a browser that packs up halfway; meaning I have to download from scratch.

Here's what happened earlier: I wanted to download the patch for Command And Conquer 3. Its 263MB in size. After about 100MB it just stops. All other pages open fine so its not my ISP. Anyway I start again; this time it gets to 140MB before it stops. On my third attempt it got to 80MB. That's 320MB wasted!!! I don't have that kind of money to waste.

So I switch to IE. Download worked fine first time. Explanation anyone? This has happened one time too many.

well, since it is the native software, it is bound to have some positive results at least,some of the time...

Internet explorer, is really judged unfairly sometimes, in my opinion...

Due to the market leading status that IE has held for so long - some companies over optimize their pages/sites for it's use this can cause all sorts of issues for users with any other browser.

This issue is normally seen on Microsoft sites and banking sites but can effect others too, this is a possible reason for issues with a particular site

I agree, yet I don't like to be fully reliant on Microsoft.
