Major trouble with re-installing Windows 7
Hello everyone,

I am new to this Windows 7 Forum.

I have a Sony Vaio laptop which I did not originally purchase but traded for my iPod touch. This Vaio has a Windows Vista sticker, but the man I got it from told me he installed Windows 7 Ultimate on it. He did not tell me that it was a Release Candidate version. I found that out after 2 hours of using this PC, when it suddenly restarted.
After June 1 it began notifying me of the RC issue, it being expired.

So, this week I finally decided to get rid of the RC version. I purchased a new Windows 7 Ultimate package and downloaded KillDisk (Active@ Kill Disk Hard Drive Eraser. Low Level Format.) to swipe my hard drive clean. I burnt KillDisk onto a DVD and ran the program, which was successful.

Afterwards I bought a new Windows 7 Ultimate package, tried to run the DVD but it now gives me the error "Operating System Not Found".

The BIOS on this Vaio model does not have a whole lot of settings to change, so what do I do???

My DVD drive is at first boot and it still gives me the same error.

I obviously wouldn't boot from the hard drive now as it is completely empty.

Did you buy an upgrade disc or a full retail/oem disc? Did you install Windows 7?

I bought a brandnew full version of Windows 7 Ultimate.

This Vaio laptop came with the RC version of Win7 Ultimate, which expired now.

I should but I probably need to get an 8GB USB stick first. My 4GB USB stick is too small.

I copies the .ISO image onto my USB stick and tried booting from it.

I got the following error:

Disk Read Error
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.

I tried to use that little Microsoft program to copy the ISO onto the USB stick.

It kept giving me the message that my ISO file was an invalid file.

So then I just manually copied and pasted the ISO onto my USB stick in Windows Explorer.

I copied the contents of my newly purchased Windows 7 Ultimate DVD onto my hard drive and created an ISO file from it with PowerISO.

Why did you do that?
If you read the tutorial it tells to copy the contents to USB stick.
