Hi,
I recently switched to MSE, and I'm curious what your opinions are about Security Essentials, and whether you would recommend it.

Yes, I use it. Yes I recommend it. Unless you are a hardcore web downloader who is going to put yourself continuously into risky situations, I don't think it's necessary to pay for a stronger product.

I have tried it and from various testing organizations it has high ratings. I now use Avast! Free which also has high ratings but I just like the interface to the setup better. Gives me more control on what it is doing. Both do a good job and I recommend both. I do use a few other programs as supplements. I believe in safety, I wear a Belt and Suspenders. :D

I personally team it up with the Comodo Firewall now & I'm happy with how it works.

Others before have suggested using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a on-demand scanner just as a back-up which is what I currently do too.

Overall I really like MSE, I've used Avast Free & a few of the paid stuff before but I just like the simplicity of MSE.

Even if you are a "hardcore web downloader" I feel you better off with MSE than some subscription AV products. I've used McAfee (and should kill myself for being dumber than a retarded squirrel by doing so), AVG, Avast!, and a couple others I can't remember the name of. Compared to the other ones I have tried, MSE wins hards down for me. Of course, everyone has there own opinions and knows what is best for them.

It is pretty good and not at all invasive. Plus it is guaranteed compatible with Windows. Avira and Avast are viable alternatives. Although I personally prefer NIS2010 which I use on some systems, MSE on some others.

I prefer it because it's simple, does everything someone would actually need and nothing more, and stays out of the way (and updated, unlike most of the PCs that you run across with "issues" with expired A/V trials and of course infections). If you're a power user it might seem a bit lacking in the configuration department, but for you there are applications like Avira, Avast, etc. However, for the vast majority of Windows users out there, MSE is all they'll ever need.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSES, I read a few tests and reviews about MSE, and there were some, which said MSE is not as good as it had to be, so I wanted to know what You think about it, what's your user experience.

If you review the latest AV-Test reviews, one of the highest-scoring A/V engines was MSE, and it was the *only* free product to be certified. It isn't necessarily the best product out there feature-wise, but as an antivirus/antimalware product either to protect a clean system or clean an infected one, it is one of the best and the price is obviously pretty good ;).

MSE caught a virus and a worm that were going around the school that my "paid" version did not.

The same "paid" version the school is using.

MSE integrates nicely with windows and uses little resources. Highly recommended

Which "paid" antivirus you are referring to? Just curious...

McFail....McAfee

It also hosed it's own files so badly with an "update" (I use the term loosely), that even rolling back 2 days before didn't help it.

They used McAfee at the school and the virus was present for 3+ months. Just about every day, when I got home, MSE would catch the virus/worm, while McAfee told me "All is well"

I switched from Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 to MSE on all of my Win7 machines. I don't use limewire so that's good enough protection, lol. But seriously, I am very pleased with MSE.

True, it doesn't have a lot of features, but compared to KIS, that's a good thing.

I have been using MSE since last year and it is the best all around antivirus around. It has daily updates which is the way I like it. Norton is maybe weekly. The others I don't know. Rock solid and it catches the crap that shows up now and then.
I have used them all and MSE is the best I have seen and used over my 21 years in computers and I personally knew John McAfee when his original program was being beta tested by me. Sorry John.
