Wicca, why do you feel it is needed to update the firmware,is there actually a problem with the drive?

no but it is slow to read takes 20 seconds to read

That drive come with your Packard Bell? If so could be a good reason the firmware update failed,

Also note that our firmware updates are not compatible with those provided by OEM vendors (e.g. HP, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Apple etc.). You may damage your drive if you flash it with incompatible firmware.
