Optical Dive not working:
Clean install!
Previous OS: Windows XP professional 32 bit
After installing Windows7 professional 32 bit my optical drive does not work anymore!
My optical drive HL-DT-ST DVD-RAMGH22LP20 ATA Device is recognized in the bios and in the device manager. No yellow or red exclamation marks are present anywhere in the device manager.
I can’t find any driver which will work. I uninstalled the drive in the device manager shut down the computer disconnected all cables from the drive. Removed the power for five minutes, did bleed the capacitors. After that I reconnected all cables restarted the computer, but the drive is not working.
In the registry I removed the upper and lower filter: This did not work ether.
I installed a sub-key in the registry, no difference.
I can eject the tray by clicking on the drive icon. The windows explorer will come up, but only the frame will be displayed and a notification window appears as well which asks me to insert a disc. Once I insert the disc I can wait forever, nothing does happen. Clicking again on the drive icon will eject the disc and asks to insert a disk, also the windows explorer frame is displayed Inside the frame is the desktop with all the icons I have on it, and the hourglass is seeking to find the files which are needed to complete the task.
Note: The disk is turning, and also gets hot from the laser!
I don’t know if the optical device is compatible with windows7 professional 32 bits.
This drive is an IDE device!
I checked for viruses and other insects with three different bootable antivirus programs.
I also run SFC /SANNOW as an administrator, no problems were found.
One other problem I did have was that my Graphic card was not showing up in the device manager.
Geforce FX 5200: Windows 7 installed a generic driver. The FX 5200 is not supported anymore. I installed a vista laptop driver instead my display is working fine at last.

I need some help.

Thank you,

Thank you Oven Master

Yes, I run XP Pro 32 bits just fine, I did read and write all DVD/CD +- Also the drive was booting the windows 7 pro 32 bits disc, as well as all my bootable discs which I created, including re-writable media.
After installing windows 7 the drive just quit.

Thank you for your response.
