Order of icons in Quick Launch changes after application updates

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone has a solution to this: lately, when I update an application which I have in my Quick Launch toolbar, its icon move to the end of the list of icons (as if it were a newly installed program and not one that had simply been updated). This means every time I update, say, Firefox, or Thunderbird, or Seamonkey, etc., I have to go into the Quick Launch toolbar and drag it back to its proper place.

Is there any way to address this or is it something that's changed in how Mozilla updates its programs? Ideally (and what used to happen) is that most program icons stayed put after the programs they pointed to were updated.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

What is happening is that the update uninstalls the currently installed version, thus it is no longer in the QL area, then it installs the new version which is placed to the right of all existing icons. At least that is my guess.

Well that might be what's happening but it doesn't really explain why the icons stay put in Vista's Quick Launch but move after every update in 7. :(

No, it doesn't. I just tried updating Firefox on my Win 7 Pro X64 and the existing icon stayed where it was.

Are you really talking about Quick Launch as it was in XP and Vista or the new scheme that Windows 7 implemented. I followed the instructions by Ronnie Vernon here Please restore the Quick Launch.

to get the real Quick Launch back.

Yep, I'm using the real Quick Launch, as it was in XP and Vista. Stuff I have pinned on my taskbar stays where it is through updates. Stuff in the Quick Launch bar, not so much. I'm also on Win 7 Pro x64.
