I there anything set to start up (startup menu)?

Has it started suddenly? It could be a recent software install that's causing it.

Hi,

Do you by any chance use Picasa to edit images as the default is for this to create an "originals" folder for each folder used by the program.

These folders are normally hidden but can sometimes lose the attribute, the best thing to do with this is to simply re-set the hidden attribute.

Also remember that the desktop also shows anything on the Public desktop ;)

I do have changed the hidden files settings to show up for a particular reason but I

I think Paint Shop Pro also creates such a folder, and I think it will be first created in the same foder as the source of the image you first edited. If Picasa and PSP do it - others probably do it as well!

Hello dabedoo,

Have you checked the properties\details of the folder for any info on what program is creating them?

Can you post a snip of your installed programs from add/remove UI.
If we can see what you have installed, maybe then someone will recognize the program creating it.

ACDSeePro may be the culprit - I don't run it, haven't for ages, have u edited or saved any images with it prior to the folder appearing?
Can't see much else.

edit: as the folder is empty - enough that it has run! Try editing an image, saving and checking the folder

Can't say for sure, but in the past i've known ACDsee to create folders like this.

Try checking in the options of ACDSee & All AVS progams for a "select folder" for saving option. Another words, most programs that save to there own folder will give the option of choosing a location yourself and you would enter the path. It would show the programs default path, in this case your user desktop.

You beat me to it. lol

@OP:

You might also try deleting the folder, then start opening programs up one at a time to see which one recreates it. Usually a program will recreate a missing folder upon launch.

I believe what you are looking for is in the options control panel. In "File management" under the heading of "Save Originals".

See this.

Had a look around. I have an identical looking folder with some original images in it - cant tell from the files where they came from but I'm 99% sure they are from ACDSee which I had installed for a moment a month or so ago (and promptly forgot about - FastStone Viewer is a better viewer) - if not itd PSP but u don't have that installed.
On the rule that great minds think alike - I'm with OEM! Gotta be ACDSee.
(absolute outsider - FastStone capture?) - otherwise we're all missing something obvious.
Someone else will step in and make fools of us all now!

Disabling the "save originals" in file management of Acdsee got rid of my problem, thxx
