My digital camera is a point-and-click Canon A620.
Canon U.S.A., Inc. | PowerShot A620

I was using it with a computer that's defunct, and this machine has no SD slot. So I downloaded the driver from that page and installed it, then plugged the camera in with the USB cord. The system doesn't see it, and there's nothing in the manual about transferring pics to a computer. But I do get the little ding-dong that tells me a peripheral has been plugged in.

I've been D/L my photos from the SD slot of my 3rd machine and moving them to this one. (An excellent reason for having several machines, BTW)

What did I do wrong?

I don't understand this (red). You don't mean "bras."

They show the USB cable in the manual:
"http://postimg.cc/Tp0FTg3V" (Ignore the file names on PostImage)

And I found this is for uploading images:

But I don't know how to get that menu on top. I just shoot everything in AUTO, and I know how to turn the flash on and off. The manual is 137 pages long. My 2 previous cameras just plugged in or I inserted the memory card.

I guess I have to rake through the manual now :-(

OK, found the "Play" menu, but there's no black triangle at the top.

I have a Powershot, but not that model. On mine, the triangle button is the metal oblong shaped button on the back next to a blue arrow head or triangle shaped symbol.

Looks like your camera accepts two kinds of USB cable output. Check to make sure you are using the top slot, not the lower slot.

I have the blue triangle icon with a slider on the back but it doesn't change the menu from the red camera icon to the triangle.

Mine has only one cable jack, the other 2 are round holes, probably for sound.

I can't become a wiz at both computers and cameras at the same time, and I made my choice a long time ago. I bought it used from a pair of photographers in my computer club, so it's not in pristine condition.

I think it's easier to just buy a card reader for my computer. Resolved.

Thanks, guys.
