I recently bought a new computer and am having issues with it freezing. I can't escape or ctrl, alt, delete out of it. I have to pull the plug and reboot. Dell ran a check and the hard drive is fine. They said it sounds like a problem with the operating system. I would appreciate any input on how to fix the problem. I ran a sfc and it said there were no errors and I also tried a system restore. I have a repair disk that they suggested I make when I got the computer, but when I use that, I get an error 0x4001100.....which seems (from what I am reading on this site) to be another story....

OS Freezing

When I first received my new Asus laptop, I had the same problem with the system freezing for no apparent reason and would not respond to any key strokes etc. Switching off and on againg was the only cure but it was happening too much for comfort. I disabled all the power settings, i.e. screen shut down, hard drive shut down etc etc on battery and external power. Can't say I solved the problem or cured it but it only froze once after and I found a setting in the power system I hadn't disabled. It hasn't froze since in the last 8 months. :D I had a feeling, but its just that, a feeling, that timers running in the background where conflicting with who knows what causing the OS to freeze. So it may be worth trying to see what happens.

Good Luck
