A friend of mine had an extra Windows 7 Ultimate key so I decided that it was a good idea to upgrade to windows 7. The upgrade went smooth however it appears I am lacking some drivers. The worst being the sound driver.

I'm on an alienware Aurora m9700 laptop.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit

I've searched every where on google and nothing seems to be able to resolve my problem nor can I find the correct drivers. Ive already done everything possible as far as Updating/Searching for drivers with device manager ect.

If anyone could please help me out post! If something is more complicated we can use teamviewer or msn to chat. Thanks...

If it worked in Vista the exact same drivers will work in win 7 if they are installed in "compatibility mode" to do theat right click the installer>properties>compatibility>vista.

Let us know if you need help with that.

If that doesnt work we can IM, team view, or what ever.\

According to the specs for your computer, you have an EPoX 5NVA + SLI motherboard which is based on nForce4... However, you have Intel HD Audio. So you'll probably need Intel HD Audio drivers. Try this utility, it might help:

Intel® Driver Update Utility

The realtek drivers might work, I can't tell for sure, but it sounds like they're based on the same chipset:
Realtek

You can try e-mailing Alienware/Dell about it...

EDIT: Yeah the vista drivers should work.

I'll try these first. Someone recommended just upgrading to 64 bit. Someone from Alienware sent me the appropriate drivers for my model but they didnt have the 32 bit. I might do that if I have to.

I've upgraded to 64 bit and I'm experiencing the same problems. None of the above solutions appeared to work.

I'm new to the forum. Came only because i had a somewhat similar problem while trying to upgrade from WinVista Home premium SP2 (regularly updated) the compatibility checker reported that my sound controller (Intel(R) 82801DB/DBM AC 97 controller) might not work properly and to update the driver. I had the same problem while i was trying a test version in my virtual machine earlier (Sun Virtualbox) where ran Win7 for over 6 months with everything going ok except the sound (it never worked).
I,ve since then tried to upgrade the driver and the driver updater (device manager) says the driver is uptodate.
Then i tried the upgrade and found that the issue is still there - compatibility checker still says the controller might not work.
Should i go on and upgrade anyway and then try to solve the problem (if any) from within win7?
