Outlook 2007 - Automatic Mail retrieval

How do I stop Outlook from checking for new mail as soon as the program loads? I could do it with OE and Windows Mail. I only want Outlook to check for new mail when I click the Send/Receive button.

There should be an option to check mail at start-up in the main options - don't have 2007 on this machine to give further details

when you open outlook, there is a send/recieve button on the toolbar with a tiny little black arrow next to it. click that arrow, and on the menu that appears, click "send/recieve settings". then click "disable scheduled send/recieve".

Yup, that stopped it. It also killed all automatic checks, which isn't what I wanted.

I don't want it to check when I start Outlook, but I do want it to check every 5 minutes thereafter.

It worked in OE and it worked in Windows Mail.

maybe you just need to adjust the send/receive time interval? the default is 30 minutes, so you would probably have to wait that long for the first mail check.

No, I adjusted it down to one minute and it never activated. I guess I'll just ahve to live with manual checking. Thanks for the help.

Not an area that I am proficient in, but you can use task scheduler to check for mail at various intervals

There is an option in tools - options - advanced "send immediately when connected". de-selecting this may also prevent the automatic receive at start-up
