Outlook 2007 freezes internet connection and won't download mail

Every time I open outlook it begins to download mail but never completes task. At the same time it locks the internet connection and computer must be rebooted to get connection open again. If outlook never opened connection never shuts down. This is a new problem, 2 weeks ago. Virus Protection is Vipre. Already checked to see if excessively large email on server was causing issue but that is not the case. Any suggestions?

In response to your query the best option I can suggest you is to back up all your emails outside outlook and save it on desktop, delete your email account, reconfigure the email account with the required parameters. If this does not work, then uninstall outlook and reinstall, now reconfigure your email account.

Note: Please make sure you back up all the emails before proceeding with the above troubleshooting steps.
