Solved Outlook 2007

Hi,
Suddenly Outlook 2007 will not open on my PC which is running Windows 7 Pro. I get the following error messages, (see attached). I have tried to repair the Outlook.pst but was only allowed to partly repair the file. Permissions are also greyed-out. Any ideas

If this is a permissions Glitch you may be able to get the repair to work by using the Hidden Administrator account, I would suggest you make a copy of the PST file before you do anything

Hi, Thanks for your prompt reply. Following your instructions I was able to run the 'Repair' on the .pst file and thankfully Outlook 2007 now opens. But, when I first activated Outlook I got the (extend.dat) warning again, so I clicked on 'OK' and Outlook opened but I now find when clicking on 'Send/Receive' I get another error. (Please see attached.) Any ideas.

It seems that the permissions are completely messed up for the Outlook files, it may be a good idea to do a repair on outlook / Office from the installer, (backup any pst's you have just in case of a problem), You may need to uninstall and re-install if permissions are really messed up, and maybe even use the Hidden admin accout to do this

the other option is a little drastic but should work - log-in as the hidden admin as before, navigate to the root folder in outlook / office right click and select properties then security, add your specific user name ( the one you use every day, or edit it and give it Full access to the folder (make sure the "Apply to sub folders" is active ) this will give your user total rights in the folder and should stop the errors

Hi, Looks like it's a un-install and re-install to get rid of these issues. I presume I can use the .pst back-up with the freshly installed Office/Outlook.

If you move it somewhere safe,away from it's current location, when you fire up the new outlook it will create a new file, you can then import your existing PST into the new install .

It used to be if you fired up the new install to create a blank PST, closed Outlook and then deleted the new empty pst, the next time it started outlook would show an error and allow you to manually navigate to the old fiile, not sure if this works with 2007, think it does
