Solved Outlook 2010 and POP3 with IMAP from iPad Issue

Hi,

I have used POP3 for all my mail on my outlook client since I first had email. With this method my multiple email accounts can be seen in a combined inbox on my windows pc.
I use IMAP to access the same accounts on my iPhone and iPad, so that I can get mail whilst travelling etc..

Up until very recently if I read an email on my IMAP accounts via my iPhone or my iPad the message would still download to my pop3 accounts on my windows client (I use my pc as the oracle and the apple products as tools). Now it appears that as soon as I read the message in IMAP the POP3 download no longer downloads the message?
I've tried marking "read" messages in the IMAP inbox "unread" in the hope that the POP3 access will download the message, this did not work. I'm now wondering what has changed with GMAIL (they altered their mail system recently), such that POP3 does not download all inbox messages that have not been downloaded to POP3 before?

If I try and search for this on the web, all I get is info about comparisons of IMAP and POP, which I understand.

If any one has any ideas that would be a great help.

Is it possible that when you read your emails on one of your programs that it is not leaving a copy on the GMail server. In other words once the email has been downloaded it is deleted from the server.
I use Outlook in Office 2013 & copies of emails are left on the server for 14 days, but this can be set to a period that suits you.
I do not use Gmail so I can't speak for it. Perhaps checking your Gmail server to see if you can reset the period of time copies of emails are left on their server.

Unfortunately not. I can go on to GMail on line and the messages are there, they just won't download to Outlook?

You may have to reset the POP3 settings in Outlook as Gmail may have changed their requirements. See if Gmail provide POP3 settings to use & if they do go into File in Outlook & select Account Settings & follow through on the one listed for Gmail POP3 until you find the settings that need changing. When you have set it up following their settings exactly it will send a test email & you should get that returned fairly soon if all the settings are correct. If not then the settings still need to be corrected.
Please note I am using Outlook in Office 2013 so some of the information may vary in Office 2010 for setting your POP3 mail account.

In the Gmail account settings in Outlook 2010, put Recent: in front of the email address and it will get the email regardless of any other downloads from other hardware.

Many thanks for the link. I've given it a try to see what happens. I only use PO3 on one machine all of the others use IMAP. Hopefully this will work. I'll let you know.

[UPDATE:] Using "recent:" seems to work with POP3 and IMAP connections, so I now have what I want.
