I've just upgraded to Outlook 2010, and now I find that links in emails I send and receive are not "hot." I aways message in Plain Text format because much of my emailing is done on Plain-Text-only mailing lists. Switching to HTML format is not an option.

How can I get Outlook 2010 make hyperlinks in email messages "hot"?

This is how it works in Outlook 2007 - hope it is valid for Outlook 2010 also.

  1. Click "New" to start a new email message
  2. Click the Office Orb (top left)
  3. Click on "Editor Options" (bottom right)
  4. Click "Proofing"
  5. Click "AutoCorrect Options..."
  6. Under "Replace", ensure that "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" is checked
  7. When you type a link into your plain text email, make sure you hit Space or Enter after the link to force it to go hot
However, in my experience, links in plain text emails do have a habit of sometimes going cold again when the message is sent, and I haven't found a fix for that - I assume it is something to do with the recipient's setup.

Anyway, hope this helps :)

The Autocorrect options are in a different place in Outlook 2010:

File > Options > Mail > Spelling and Autocorrect

Actually, almost everything is in a different place in 2010! I feel like a novice. But your suggesting worked. Thank you!

Because I dislike Autocorrect and Autoformat, I had gone in and unchecked all the checkboxes when I first installed 2010. Obviously a mistake in the case of the "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" option.

Thanks so much!
