Outlook 2010 Sent Mails Disappear From Sent Folder

Hello all,

I decided to post my question here because to me, this is the most knowledgeable forum around :geek:

I have looked left and right for an answer but can't find it.

I have Outlook 2010 final and I have noticed that some (not all) of my sent emails don't end up in the sent folder.

Let's say I make a silly test mail that I want to send to my Hotmail account and just add gibberish to the heading and body. I send the email, I see it in sent folder, I see it has arrived in my Hotmail account, I close and re open Outlook and the sent mail is gone from the sent folder.

Some emails that I send do show up in the sent folder (and stay there) and some just disappear as soon as I restart Outlook.

I have been using Outlook for many many years and this is a first for me.

Has anyone seen this and does anyone have a clue, because I sure don't.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Yeah, sorry, I was away from this site for a short time!

Think very carefully about the emails that disappear: is there any connection between them at all? Recipient addresses, time of day, anything? Do the emails that DON'T disappear have anything in common?

Hey there BCXtreme,

The answer to all your questions is no.

I submitted this issue to the Outlook product group at MS and I haven't gotten a reply yet.

I reinstalled 2007 and the issue is not happening.

This is clearly an Outlook 2010 issue with timing.

I assume, since you are using a POP account, that the Sent Items folder is managed/stored locally, and is not synced with the mail server?

Disappearing Outlook Items 2010

I am also having this problem. I have been using Outlook for a very long time, and I have never seen anything disappear before. I am running an Exchange environment and I have cleared out my .ost file and rebuilt it thinking it might be corrupted, but this was not the problem.

Are the sent mails replies to received mails?
if so
Are the sent mails being stored in the same folder as the mail being answered?.

There is an option to do this buried deep in the options so may be relevant

I am sorry, I thought I did. I only saw two questions. First, is it a reply and I stated yes. Then the question was is it in the same folder and I said that all incoming mail goes to my inbox. The problem is in my sent folder. So, I was assuming that I was saying that it was two different folders. Sorry, I will try to be more clear.

You answered Barman's questions, but not BMXtreme's. You did post in a thread that is kind of old, so it would make sense to read what has already been discussed.

I now see that you asked about a different set of question. I am running a combination environment between POP3, IMAP and Exchange. I have multiple accounts. All accounts use the AT&T transport to send e-mail. I am running over a cable modem. Long story. I have found no correlation between any messages. However, I believe most of them are when I am dialog with someone. I know there is a new setting regarding looking at messages of a conversation, but I am not really sure how that would be involved because I don't believe I am using that view. I have no filters being used. I do have some rules, but none of them are in play in this situation.

I am in contact with a member of the Outlook team. It is a long and tedious process to find a bug of this kind just by typing.

This bug is exclusive to OE 2010 because I can't repro in 2007 with the exact same settings and repro environment.

As soon as I have something concrete from the OE team, I will post (even if benign)

I'm currently tying to setup a Yahoo account and try to reproduce the problem and find a fix. It might take a while, but I will write back with any results.

Well, I have two internet connections to my network. One is Charter Cable and the other is AT&T DSL. The DSL backs up the cable and allows me to keep my e-mail addresses that I have used for many years. I am also running a VoIP phone so I need 100% uptime. Therefore, I am paying for the AT&T/Yahoo account via my DSL connection. So, I have a POP3 account (AT&T/Yahoo), an Exchange account (running exchange 2007 with SBS 2008), and I am using an IMAP account for one of my clients. The only area I am seeing the problem is on my POP3 account (AT&T).
