Outlook 2010 is acting up for me.

First, I have sort by categories which works fine.

Then, I have "as last viewed" for expand/collapse default in view settings > group by (automatically group is checked)

Problem: when changing folders, I come back to inbox just to find random collapse/expand view instead of my actual "last viewed" settings. For example, today I went to inbox, everything was collapsed. I change folders, come back to inbox and everything is expanded. It happens most of the time.

I have my settings oriented similar to yours but I cannot replicate the issue you are having. Whenever I use the "Expand/Collapse" options:

whenever I switch folders and return to the folder I last expanded, or collapsed, the view remains as I chose.

Outlook view collapse catagories problem

I have this same problem. The view of my catagories is always expanded when I open the contacts tab. I cannot find a way to have it always collapsed. This is happeninf on my home desktop running windows 7, however my desktop at work is running Office 2010 home/business also and it is always whereever I left it the last time I was in the contacts tab. If I had catagory 1 open and everything else closed the last time i was in either Outlook directly or selected the contacts tab then that is what I find when I go back.

Outlook view collapse catagories problem

Outlook 2013 is no better - the collapsed view setting does not stick and I have to change it 6-8 times a session.
Unfortunately it appears Microsoft is not interested in solving this most irritating problem.
