When I loaded Office '07 after Windows 7 install, all works fine except when I start Outlook, an error message as follows, pops up:

"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the Outlook window."

Anyone else get this? Please help.

Partial fix to the problem

This is what I posted on the Microsoft forum about the problem. It may help someone here who's trying to get past the Outlook crash issue:

"I successfully upgraded to Windows 7 Oct 29th, and all programs were working. Oct 30, I installed the most recent patches to Office, Windows, etc., and Outlook now crashes. It will not run in safe mode either (or any mode). I performed all the Microsoft-suggested checks and fixes, but none worked.

I finally did a system restore to the point just prior to installing the patches, and everything works again, especially Outlook.

It is absolutely appalling that these so-called Microsoft developers and product managers quite evidently release patches in a hurried and unsafe manner, and that they most certainly DO NOT perform regression testing prior to tossing their patches out to the public! This is so pathetic and unprofessional of them!"

Method 1:
Try to open outlook in safe mode.

1. Click on the start button and open run.
2. Type outlook.exe /safe and open it.
3. If outlook does not open attempt a detect and repair

Method 2

Try to open outlook without addins

1. Click on start and open run
2. Type outlook.exe /a and run it.

If this works then it is third party addins causing the issue with outlook. Removing the addins will solve the problem. Ask for information on how to do this if it works.

I hope this works, but if it doesn't there are 4 other methods to get your outlook up and running. :geek:

Thanks, Tyler, but I tried ALL of the mothods recommended by you and the Microsoft technet people. None of them worked. It was the Office patches/updates coupled with the Windows 7 patches/updates that caused Outlook to fail. I am currently trying out update-by-update, one-by-one (with restore points set between each), to determine which is the faulty patch/update.
