Outlook Everywhere cannot be used in windows Seven

I had tried the outlook, if I select the everywhere via http, I cannot get the authorization, system will always prompt me to input the username and password.

Does someboy get this trouble?

What is it? Give more info. You are trying to get mail over http from Microsoft Hotmail/Live account?

Yes, I have exactly the same problem unfortunately. Cannot get Outlook (2003 or 2007) to connnect to an exchange server using outlook anywhere (RPC over HTTP).

(Nothing to do with outlook connector / windows live)

Running beta build 7000 and cannot get outlook 2007 or 2003 to work with outlook anywhere (rpc/https) via basic authentication. Same issue...

Buzzy, if you get this, can you detail steps on how you got it working on 6956 so pesos can give it a shot in build 7000?

Yes. Took some time bc I had to change our exchange server over to ntlm, and there is extra step to do that on win2008. Working now. Hopefully they get this fixed for the next build.

THanks for following up - could we trouble you to do a mini write up on what *exactly* had to be done?

No problem. This won't work of course unless you happen to be your own Exchange admin. The vast majority of Outlook Anywhere (rpc over http in the 2003 world) installations are set up with Basic auth (at least the ones I know of) and mine always has been as well. Luckily most of our clients are connected directly inside citrix sessions, so this change only affected a few of us.

Client side you simply change from basic auth to NTLM.

Server side you need to open up the EMC, go to CAS configuration, right-click on the server and go to properties. On the Outlook Anywhere tab, change it to NTLM instead of Basic. I then read after googling that you have to manually enable Windows auth on the RPC directory within IIS (not sure if EMC would have eventually propogated this on its own or not, but I did it manually). That got it working, but it would prompt 3 times for auth, wait a while, then prompt 3 more times, etc etc. After more googling I came across a note that by default IIS7 does "kernel-mode" for windows auth (google "outlook anywhere kernel" and you should find it), and there is a command you have to run to disable that. Then restart IIS and it's good to go.

So if we are using a hosted exchange service, I am, then we are out of luck unless it gets fixed in the next build or the host provider makes the necessary change on their side, correct?

Thanks for that suggestion - might be a way around it - as long as outlook allows you to set the the username using domain qualification this *should* do the trick.

I'm having the same issue with build 7000. I have Exchange 2003 running on SBS 2003 standard, I tried changing the authentication on the RPC folder under default website, and Outlook 2007 to NTLM but still no go.

I see there appear to be extra steps possibly for exchange system manager but they look like a later version than Exchange 2003.

Anybody know what needs to be done server side for exchange 2003.

I have alraedy run IE7 as administrator & installed the certificate.

i had this problem appear after months of working fine. for some reason, clients machines were switching from our OWA site (webmail.company.com) to server.company.com on the exchange proxy settings of the connection tab. also, the "only connect to proxy servers......" box was checked off. this did not occurr manually, but happened somewhere in the background. easy to fix, but very strange that it happens at all.
