Outlook Express for Win7

OK, I am thinking of changing to Win7 but only if I can find a way to use my Outlook Express with it. I am not interested in Live Mail or Thunderbird. I want to use stationery once in a while with my Emails. I want the folder list to fold up out of sight and come down only when I want them. Has anyone heard of someone working on this? I have not been able to understand Microsoft's reason for dropping or not upgrading Outlook Express. Live Mail is junk! What were they thinking? Any rumors out there as to someone working on this or any ideas of how to get it into Win7? I looked at DOS box and the XP thing for Win7 and I can not say I was impressed. Any other ideas?

In that case, as far as I know, you won't be changing to Windows 7.

I have heard nothing about MS ever bringing back OE. I wish it was still around also, but I accepted the inevitable and went to another application.

I've got it to resemble OE pretty well.

Actually, if you had ever used Vista's "Windows Mail" you would have found it to be an improved version of OE since it's pretty much the same with the addition of a spell checker. (They also changed the way the data is stored in Windows Explorer to the newer "*.eml" file format for each email instead of lumping all emails for a single account into a single database file.) There is a tuorial about reinstating Windows Mail so it will function in Windows 7 but it has it's own potential problems in that it's not officially supported by Microsoft on Windows 7 but is still supported in Vista: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/5481-windows-mail.html

Why Outlook was taken out of Windows 7 is easy to answer. They want to sell it to you.

Trouble is, Outlook 2010 has too many bells and whistles for the home user.

Outlook Express was great and I still miss its simplicity and effectiveness.

No stationary but this is how my Windows Live Mail looks. As you can see I have 2 accounts with Charter and all my folders are hidden. If I click on the account name it opens its inbox. You can do a lot to make it do what you want. Just have to play with it a bit.

@ignatzatsonic: Where oh where did you find those cool classic Icons, and how did you get those thick separator lines. I played with it for a while, and gave up for tonight. No stationary. There is a work around, but I can't say I like it. I tried to move my accounts below the "Local Folders", and failed. Overall, close, but not quite there. It is however, the closest I've seen so far though.

@roncerrI I agree with @seavixen32. It's what I don't want that they gave me, and took away what I did want. "Improvements" should be configurable to disappear for those that don't want them. Taking features out (Like stationary.) is NOT part of anyones idea of improvement. I guess someone who didn't use that function figured we who did don't need it anymore. I liked the simple layout of OE for my wife, with a really powerful program under the hood to handle my complex needs. Exactly what I wanted, all for free.
