outlook express in windows 7??

Is there an Outlook Express here or is it just windows Mail?? and if so why can't I create an email program using my @shaw account?? It say on my seach of this question to create a new acountis to use tools/ but there is no bar called Tools...
I don't want to use Hotmail.. It is full of spam and is so archaic...
I need to use Outlook Express for Windows 7.. any ideas??

It's not there, and its replacement, Windows Live Mail isn't exactly well defined as such. At least that was my experience when I went looking.

I'm not sure what Windows Live supports so I don't even know if it would let you use it on something besides hotmail.

I'd look at alternatives like Mozilla Thunderbird or the built in mail client that comes with the Opera browser.

I've used both and liked them both, though it's been a while since I used either. I don't even use the email provided by my ISP any more.

Ther are others. Just do a search for "email clients" and you'll find a whole list I'm sure.

"Windows Live Mail" is what outlook express has morphed into over the last few years. It's about 90% the same but makes handling multiple email accounts a little better.

Just DL and install it from the Windows Live web page. You can install it by itself without installing all the other live tools if you want.

[Edit] Yes, you can use Windows Live Mail on normal POP email accounts. I don't even have a windows live email account. [/edit]

OK I got the Windows Live Mail to do what I need for a pop3 account. ,,,,
But every time I start it up I get a 'floating notification' to get me to sign up with my old Hotmail account..

There must be a way to turn this off...

My guess is your old Hotmail account is your current Live ID (the one you used to download Windows Live Essentials). There is an option to not "sign in". (I must admit I haven't seen the "floating" thing myself but I'm using the previous version of WLM.) Look for the Connection tab in the options folder to turn off signing in. Keep in mind that there are two contact lists in WLM but you can only view one at a time: the "signed-in" list which is duplicated at the website "contacts.live.com" and the "not signed-in" list which only resides within WLM. They are both unrelated to the Windows Explorer Contacts Folder that appears in Windows Explorer directly under your username. The main advantage of signing in the you always have a backed up copy of your contacts organized as you want and available to you at the web site and on every computer running WLM when signed-in to your Live ID.

Well everything i've been using for the last 10yrs are on my comcast account Does anyone know how to get around that Alll I can say is WOW.

I'm not at my machine with WLM on it but I just added my normal POP/SMTP email accounts under the accounts properties and it gets and sends mail like usual. I also exported my old mail messages from the old OE and imported them into WLM which worked well. My address book had issues so I cleaned it out and hand added in the ones I wanted to keep.

WLM has never tried to sign into hotmail or anything else by itself though. I have no idea how to turn that off if it was enabled automatically or something.
