Solved Outlook Express question

Not a Windows 7 problem but help is needed please.

I cleaned up a friends computer yesterday, it had completely ground to a halt. It is now running fine except for one annoying problem. Outlook Express opens up fine and shows all the e mails. When she double clicks on one, or right clicks and selects 'OPEN', the e mail does not open up, but instead immediately minimises and drops to the task bar at the bottom of the screen. When here, it can be opened with a right click and selecting either maximise or restore. I just cannot make it open in the normal way. Any ideas please? When she tries to downsize it it drops back to a minimised state again on the task bar.

Running XP Home.

Try this,find Outlook Express in start\all programs\right click\properties and check if the Run" Is in Normal window,if not set it to Normal window and Apply.

The above is actually for the program and not for the emails,though give it a try and post back.

Very many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately she will not be available today, she is a church goer, and always goes out with friends afterwards. I will contact her tomorrow and report back as requested.

I managed to contact her last night by phone. She tried your solution, but unfortunately the properties box already showed normal window. We tried all settings and all were the same. We tried dragging the corners of the minimised box, but this would not work. She will carry on using e mail as described in my first post, and I will visit tomorrow and install Windows live mail.

You can try also to completely remove outlouk,restart,reinstall outlouk,restart.

She doesn't use Outllook, it is Outlook Expresss, and I don't believe that this can be removed, it is part of the XP operating system.

If i remember well,is start\control panel\Add or Remove Programs\Add/Remove Windows Components there you can find and remove outlouk express.

I will have a look tomorrow, but I don't think the whole program can be removed, only disabled. I will look and see if it can be repaired, if not I will install Windows live mail.

Unfortunately none of the tips on here or elsewhere worked. I installed Windows Live Mail, and could not believe it when that behaved in exactly the same way. She wanted to go back to Outlook Express as she knows the program well. After that the computer started to play up again as it did a few days ago. No matter what I did it got slower and slower. I tried to reinstall Windows XP but the set up would not initiate. I could not open any programs at all after a while. I had a word with the local repair man on the phone, who we both know as thoroughly reliable. He will collect it on Thursday and check the hardware.
